首先, interrupt 和 disrupt 在英漢字典裡都有 ”中斷” 之意
但 interrupt 是指原本在進行的事, 突然被打斷了
使得這件事不得不短暫地停下來
但是之後這件事會再繼續 比如人家在講話, 你去插嘴, 但你走了以後, 他們會繼續講話
或是電視節目看到一半, 突然畫面消失, 被插入緊急新聞快報
但新聞插播後, 原來的節目會繼續下去
這種情況就用 interrupt
例如: He interrupted our conversation to tell us he was leaving.
Our meeting was interrupted by a phone call.
disrupt 則是這件事情不但被中斷, 而且整個秩序或規律被破壞 比如地鐵發生爆炸案或其他意外
讓地鐵有一陣子完全無法運作
雖然它之後是有可能恢復正常的
但事發當時會讓它整個停擺, 這樣叫 disrupt
例如: The computer system was disrupted by the virus.
The accident downtown disrupted the bus schedule.
最後, disturb 所指的 ”干擾” 或 ”打擾”, 是用在 指干擾到對方的安寧或平靜的狀態 而不是指事情的進行
比如: The neighbor’s children always disturb us in the afternoon.
Am I disturbing you by watching TV?
Sorry for disturbing you, but may I see your I.D., please?
我們也可以把它變成形容詞 disturbing (干擾寧靜的; 令人感到不舒服的)
和 disturbed (被打擾的; 感到不舒服的)
The photo of the crime scene is really disturbing.
(那張犯罪現場的照片令人很不舒服)
We were deeply disturbed by the news report.
(我們對那篇新聞報導感到很不舒服)
不過有時講一個人 disturbed 是指此人 mentally disturbed
意思就是 ”精神不正常”
像是: My ex-girlfriend is a very disturbed young woman.
(我的前女友是個瘋女人)
(不可否認的, 很多女性同胞的確一談戀愛就會 ”抓狂” 變成瘋子
和平常的溫柔形象完全判若兩人咧......)
