maybe 和 perhaps 這兩個字都是 ”也許”
在意思上並沒有差別
只有兩個地方不同:
1. maybe 要放句首, 但 perhaps 不一定要放句首 比如一定要說: Maybe he is not home. = Perhaps he is not home.
但 perhaps 可以放在句子中間, 前後用兩個逗點隔開
所以也可以說 He is, perhaps, not home.
或甚至放在句尾: He is not home, perhaps.
但 maybe 則不能放在句子中間或句尾
2. perhaps 比 maybe 正式一些 口語上比較常用 maybe
講話時若用 perhaps 就有點文謅謅的感覺
並沒有什麼不好, 聽起來是比較有水準和氣質的
學究型的人就比較會常用 perhaps 而不是 maybe
