由於那一課裡有出現 have a good time 這個片語
幾乎每個同學都寫 Did you have a good time on the weekend?
但事實上 ”你的周末過得愉快嗎?” 只要翻成很簡單的 Did you have a good weekend? 就好了
翻成 Did you have a good time on the weekend? 雖然意思好像 ”差不多”
但仍是不一樣的
Did you have a good weekend? 簡單明瞭, 就是問周末開不開心, 是不是個 good weekend
Did you have a good time on the weekend? 意思則會是指在周末時有個活動或場合
而問話的人想知道對方在那個活動或場合玩得開不開心
大家在把中文翻成英文時常會有許多不必要的廢話和贅字
像是 ”開車” 就一定要用 drive cars 而不是 drive, “寫字” 就一定要說 write words 而不是 write
雖然也不見得都是 ”錯” 的, 但就是不自然的中式英文, 一看就知道不是英文好的人會寫或講出來的東西
為什麼會這樣? 就是因為很多人都還在用中文學英文, 而不是用英文學英文
所謂 ”用英文學英文”, 是指應該從英文原文裡去學, 人家是如何表達中文裡的某種意思的
而不是先有了中文以後, 再去一個字一個字地把它換成英文單字後拚湊起來
世界上不可能有兩種語言是 ”逐字對應” 的關係
要常去思考: 這個在英文裡是不是有更簡短的說法?
每天都要看一些英文的東西 (找自己看得懂的)
久而久之它就會成為你的一部份
