Merriam-Webster (韋伯大字典) 的解釋是:
a very large store that carries products found in a supermarket as well as merchandise
commonly found in department stores
(一個很大, 有賣超市販售的東西, 也有賣百貨公司常見商品的店)
另外 wikipedia 的解釋是: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypermarket 不過它也有其他說法, 像是 superstore, megastore, megamart, hypermart, supercenter 等
反正意思都是 ”超大的店”
另外還有 discount store chain (連鎖折價店) 這個說法
