雖然這幾個字有時都被翻成 ”剩下”
但各位要先知道的是, 在指 ”剩下” 的時候, 這三個字的用法都不同, 詞性也不同
我們先來看 leave
用它來指 ”剩下” 時, 要用被動的說法, 也就是它的過去分詞 left
它的用法是 ”名詞 + left” 表示 ”剩下......”
比如: I only have 20 dollars left. / There is only a little juice left (in the bottle).
用主動的 leave 時, 指的是 ”某人留下了...”
像: I left my wallet in the office. / We left half a pizza for you.
再來講 remain 這個字
它的意思其實並不是 ”剩下”, 而是 ”仍在...”, 而且是主動用法
比如: Two pieces of the broken bottle remained on the floor.
但可以用 remaining 當形容詞, 指 ”剩下的”
像: Most seats are sold. The remaining 20 seats are reserved for VIP members.
remain 最常見的用法其實是接形容詞, 表示 ”仍然...”, “保持...”
例: Gold prices remain high.
She remained calm after hearing the bad news.
最後是 rest
各位要先知道, rest 是指 ”剩下的東西”, 它是當名詞用
所以光是這一點就和前面那兩個動詞很不一樣了
