到底中文的 ”在街上”, 英文是用 on the street 還是 in the street?
兩種相信大家都看過
講 on the street 的時候, 是把 street 當作地面, 或一個定點來看
所以要說某個場所在某條街上, 是用 on the street
比如: There is a bank on Maple Street.
若講 walk on the street, 或 stand on the street, 是指在地面上行走或站著
(而不是在走廊上或木箱, 椅子等其他地方)
講 in the street(s) 的時候, 是把 street 當作戶外的空間
像中文講的 ”街頭”, 其實指的就是外面隨便一個地方, 也不一定真的是在某條街上
所以 walk in the street(s), drive in the street(s), stand in the street 等
意思就是指在外面或街頭行走, 開車, 站立
老外在講 ”走在路上” 時
比較常用 walk in the street(s) 或 walk down the street
比如: I was walking in / down the street the other day when I saw Ted’s car.
”站在大街上” 也比較常用 stand in the street
比如: I saw Ted standing in the street the other day.
除非是要講站在某條街上, 才會用 on
例如: I saw Ted standing on 3rd Street the other day.
細心的讀者不知有沒有發現, 以上幾種用法, 有些可以加 s, 但有些又沒有加 s
