”花枝” 的說法是 calamari [kæləˋmɑrɪ]
像炸花枝(圈)就是 deep-fried calamari (rings)
”烏賊” 則是 squid [skwɪd] / cuttlefish [ˋkʌt!͵fɪʃ]
而 ”章魚” 是 octopus [ˋɑktəpəs]
不過, “章魚燒” 這個東西則有點複雜
它其實大部份是麵粉, 雖然應該麵糊裡面要有摻一點章魚肉
但很多時候路邊攤賣的那種便宜的章魚燒裡可能根本沒有
不宜叫它 octopus balls, 因為第一它裡面章魚肉的成份就算有也很少
第二是容易讓某些老外誤以為它是 ”章魚睪丸” 的意思......
像這種東西只能用描述的方式, 會比較囉嗦, 但也沒辦法
食物名稱常常是最難翻譯的東西之一
一定要講的話, “章魚燒” 可以說是 slightly fried flour balls made with a little octopus meat and vegetables
(用一點章魚肉和蔬菜做成的麵粉丸子)
上面的柴魚片則是 dried bonito flakes
(bonito [bəˋnito] 其實是鰹魚)
要講上面有放柴魚片的話, 就在 ... vegetables 後面再加 with dried bonito flakes on top
