在電影或影集中常聽到當一群人要上車外出時
就會有人(經常是小孩)會喊：Shotgun! 或 I’m riding shotgun!
意思其實是說他想坐駕駛旁邊的位子
這個說法源自美國的西部拓荒時期
當時有很多載運金錢或貨物的馬車會遭到搶劫
於是常在駕車者的旁邊會有一名持槍人員保護
後來就變成是指坐在汽車駕駛旁邊的位子
我們把它加以變化來舉些例：
She is riding shotgun. (她正坐在駕駛座旁邊的位子。)
Who wants to ride shotgun? (誰想坐駕駛座旁邊的位子？)
I hate riding shotgun. (我討厭坐駕駛座旁邊的位子。)
