uncalled for基本上是不必要的、不恰當的意思
說That was uncalled for. 的時候有兩種情況
一是當我們說了冒犯別人的話而道歉時
會說：Sorry, that was uncalled for.
意思是「抱歉，我剛剛那樣講不太恰當/沒有必要」
二是當別人說了冒犯我們的話，要表達抗議時，也會說That was uncalled for.
意思就是「你剛剛那樣講不太恰當/沒有必要」
用過去式的原因是因為它是針對剛剛講出來的話
