在美式英文中, 若是要指求學階段或教育程度, 一般用的是 college
(即使你唸的學校是叫 xxx university)
比如要講一個人在唸大學, 就是 He is in college. (注意不加冠詞)
一個唸過大學的人是 a college graduate (注意此時是名詞, 要唸 [ˋgrædʒʊ ə t] )
問人家有沒有唸過大學是 Did you go to college?

美式英文中, 若用 university 來指上大學的話, 是要加冠詞的
比如 He is in college. = He is in a university.
( 注意 university 的第一個音其實是子音 /j/ , 所以是 a 而不是 an )
He didn’t go to college. = He didn’t go to a university.
但如前段所述, 指上大學時在美式英文中多半是用 college
university 通常用在學校的名字裡, 或是用來區別在教育組織上的不同
叫做 college 的學校是一種專科學校, 或是用來指大學裡的一個學院
而 university 則是匯集了多個學院的大學
現在的大學多半都是 university
