最近的天氣用來學這個字再適合不過了
clammy 是個形容詞, 不過它並不是從名詞 clam (蛤蜊) 而來
(雖然蛤蜊打開來給人的感覺也是濕濕又黏黏~ )
它事實上是從古字 clammen 而來, 指 ”塗抹, 黏住”
clammy 這個字現在的意思就是黏黏的, 一整個讓人不舒服的感覺
它不一定是濕的, 有時是像口水乾了以後變得黏黏的, 但通常是冰涼的
比如握到一個人的手, 結果掌心冰冷又因為手汗而黏黏的
就可以說它是個 clammy handshake
例: He had a clammy handshake. I think he was very nervous.
Frogs have clammy skin.
A clammy handshake usually leaves a bad impression.
這個字當然也常用來講天氣, 像台北或倫敦的冬天濕冷, 可以說是 clammy weather
有時夏天雖然也潮濕, 但因為是熱的, 所以不是 clammy
人在流汗後, 汗被風乾留下的涼涼而黏膩的感覺是 clammy
例: This clammy weather is really unpleasant.
I had a clammy feeling after I woke up in the morning.
