昨天坐計程車聞到「好久不見」的樟腦丸的味道
想到應該很多人不知道「樟腦丸」這個東西英文怎麼說
它叫 mothball [ˋmɔθbɔl]
moth 這個字本來是「蛾」的意思
因為樟腦丸所要防的蟲類之一是「衣蛾」，所以在英文裡用到這個字
不過中文裡的樟腦是指樟樹的萃取物
原本樟腦丸應該是天然的樟樹萃取物做成的
不過現在大部份便宜的樟腦丸是化學物質合成的
(題外話：有時比較一下不同語言是從什麼角度為東西命名還蠻有趣的哦~)
另外由於現在用樟腦丸的人不多了，這個字也被用來指已經收起來不用的東西
用法是 be mothballed 或 be put into mothballs
